High Five for Friday

Today I'm linking up with From My Grey Desk for High Five for Friday . Below are my top 5 things from the week :)

1. My husband and I bought tickets for our first baseball game of the season. Can't wait! Go Cards!

2. I'm always reading something. Right now it's One Thousand Gifts, which my mom reviewed earlier this week. Such a good book. Throughout the book, you're supposed to keep track of your own 1,000 gifts. It's really opened my eyes and made me notice the little things in life and encouraged me to be grateful to God for everything!

3. I made Penne a la Betsy for supper last night. Of course it was delish....it's from The Pioneer Woman!

4. Loving this new nail polish. For Audrey by China Glaze

5. Going to see Titanic in 3-D this weekend with my friend Erica (check out her awesome blog here ). Can't wait!

The boys!

Introducing our 2 favorite dogs: Gus and Drake. We have a lot of fun with them. Although, Drake is the oldest, you would never know it...he has a lot of energy and loves to play. Gus on the other hand is more like a cat than a dog. We love them both all the same though.

Drake aka: Drakey, Drakester, Moose, Drakey dog

Age: 6

Interests: playing with Robert (my stuffed animal), chasing a tennis ball, licking human faces, sitting on my owner's feet, eating out of the trash can, also, I used to enjoy eating socks

Gus aka: Gussy, Gusser, Grandpa Gus, Velvet Ears, Lemon, Gussy boy

Age: 3

Interests: sleeping, sleeping and more sleeping....don't bother me. I also enjoy having just about every ailment you can imagine. My owners love taking me to the vet.  I also love eating peanut butter and cottage cheese.

Book review

Hi! I'm Michele, the Mother side of M & M. I read a great book that I would like to share with you. It's called One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. This is a book you might like to buy so that you can underline and re-read. It's about a woman who was encouraged by a friend to write down 1,000 gifts that God has given her. They range from the beauty of nature to people who touched her life, even soap bubbles. It's trying to see God in everything and giving thanks for all the ways He shows Himself to us. Voskamp believes that by giving thanks we are drawn closer to God. Ephesians 5:20 Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

There are 2 things that really stood out to me. The first is that thankfulness and negative feelings can not coincide. Those of us who get down and fight with the ability to be positive, will really be changed by this. This means when we are down we should start thanking God for all things, then thankfulness will bring us out of the negative. Just like anything else, this takes practice but I really feel this will be life changing.

The second point is called the Ugly-Beautiful. It's when something ugly is happening in your life and you look and see all the ways God makes this experience beautiful. For example, my father died in September following 4 months in the hospital and rehab center. During this horrible time God showed Himself to me in so many beautiful ways. So whatever you are going through, look for God. He is there and will show you His love for you.

Book review

Paris, My Sweet: A Year in the City of Light (and Dark Chocolate) by Amy Thomas

Do you guys like to read? Both of us here are OBSESSED...and I am not exaggerating in any way.  Our idea of fun is definitely curling up with a good book. One of our most recent reads has been Paris, My Sweet: A Year in the City of Light (and Dark Chocolate) by Amy Thomas. It's a really cute story about a young woman who temporarily moves to Paris for her job and her struggle between living in Paris and New York. The best part is her discussing all of the fun desserts she eats in both cities. She does a beautiful job of describing all of the food...it's almost like you can taste the cupcakes, scones, cookies etc.

Verdict: Light, fluffy fun read
